At Cedar Walk Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we are members of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. Sounds great but what does this mean?
It means that we are proud to offer biological and holistic dentistry and it’s fully integrated into our practice. One of the most important things we have implemented is a proper protocol for amalgam filling removal, which is safe for both patients and for staff members who remove them.
We also implement clean and safe, biologically compatible materials. We wouldn’t put something into the mouths of our patients that we wouldn’t put into ours or our children’s mouths. We do a lot of research to see where our products are coming from and what the constituents are. We believe our dentistry is very conservative and our treatment plans are designed for each individual patient. What fits one does not necessarily fit another. As far as radiographs are concerned, a lot of questions are raised today in dentistry and there is a lot of concern because a lot of dental offices prescribe them every 6 months or so. We certainly don’t do that here, based on the risk assessment of each individual patient. It’s done on an individual basis or on an as needed basis. We are very conservative with our radio-graphs and take every precaution to protect our patients. We assess each patient’s risk for cavities, periodontal disease and design dental plans based on individuality.
We are excited to be able to provide yet another high level of dentistry in the Charlotte, NC area to all of our patients. We have a family atmosphere in our office and we look after our patients as our own family members and are proud to offer biological and holistic dentistry practices.
We also believe that holistic dentistry goes hand in hand with what is going on outside the dental office too. We believe that nutrition is very important. It’s not only what we are eating but what medicine we are taking. Everything is assessed. We won’t recommend someone to have a root canal that cannot get that based on his or her medical history.
Dr. Brikina shared that the other day she was talking to a friend and the friend said, “I wish there was a drive by juice bar, instead of millions of Starbucks and McDonald’s.” Dr. B happily replied “Yes me too!” As dentists, that’s whom we want to appeal to. To people that want a healthier, option filled lifestyle, not only in dentistry but everywhere else in their life – a full spectrum. This just ties in with what they are looking for and unfortunately they can’t find in a lot of places.
We also talk to our patients a lot about nutrition. I work closely with a Nutritionist that works with a lot of kids and we recommend her to assess their needs and have the parents speak to her and figure out a healthier lifestyle for them, which will in turn decrease cavities and improve periodontal disease without extra medicine and extra work done in our office!
